The course begins with foundational figure drawing — learning the 9-head proportion standard used in professional fashion illustration, understanding balance and pose, and developing a personal drawing style. Students practise sketching fashion figures in a range of poses: standing, walking, and dynamic editorial poses. Once the figure foundation is established, students move to face and accessory rendering, including hair, footwear, and jewellery detailing. The second half of the course focuses on garments — how to indicate different fabric textures and weights through line quality and shading, how to render prints and embellishments, and how to illustrate both flat technical drawings and three-dimensional fashion plates for portfolio use.
By the end of the course, students can draw confident fashion figures, render a wide range of garment types and fabric textures, and create multi-look collection illustrations suitable for a professional portfolio. The course uses both hand illustration (pencil, marker, and ink techniques) and introduces digital illustration tools for students who want to extend their skills into digital fashion design.
