Pattern making is the technical foundation of fashion design — the skill that converts design ideas into production-ready garment templates. OGIFT's 1-month Express Mastery Pattern Making Basic course teaches the complete foundational pattern making skill set: accurate body measurement, block construction, dart manipulation, and the drafting of nine standard garment patterns. The course is taught at OGIFT's campus in Vinayakanagar, Bengaluru, by faculty with hands-on experience in pattern making for garment export companies and fashion design studios across India.
The course begins with body measurement — learning to take accurate measurements, calculate ease allowances for different garment types, and understand how fit is built into a pattern before stitching begins. Students then construct the foundational blocks: the basic bodice block, the skirt block, and the sleeve block. These three blocks are the starting point for virtually every garment pattern in women's wear. From these blocks, students learn to draft nine complete patterns — the bodice, kurta, full-length salwar, patiala salwar, palazzo trousers, churidar, leggings, skirt, and blouse. Each pattern is developed on paper in the pattern making lab, checked for fit, and graded for standard sizes.
Graduates of the Pattern Making Basic course are job-ready for entry-level positions in garment production, alteration and fitting services, tailoring businesses, and boutique operations. Pattern making is one of the most consistently in-demand skills in the Indian garment industry. OGIFT graduates with pattern making skills are regularly hired by garment export houses, design studios, boutiques, and retail brands across Bangalore, including industry partners of OGIFT such as Fabindia, Raymond, and leading boutique chains. OGIFT provides 100% placement support to all graduates.
No prior experience in sewing, tailoring, or fashion is required. Eligibility is Class 10 (SSC) and above. Many students use this course as the starting point for a longer programme at OGIFT — progressing to the 3-month or 6-month diploma after completing the Express Mastery. Batch sizes are limited.
