The course covers seven patterns: the basic skirt block and variations, the A-line skirt, the cascade skirt, the high-waisted trouser, the empire waist dress, the shift dress, and the reversible jacket. For each style, students learn the pattern construction methodology, the fitting considerations specific to western garment silhouettes, and the alteration techniques used in professional alterations services and made-to-measure boutiques. The course builds on foundational pattern making skills — students are expected to be familiar with basic bodice and skirt block construction before joining, either through OGIFT's Pattern Making Basic course or equivalent experience.
